This month’s theme is again a theme that resonates with everyone and what would we do without it? – That is…”Music”.
Paul Kulessa was invited as Guest Judge for this theme. It’s his second time taking on this task and we appreciate his feedback.
Paul considers himself a Photographic Artist, driven by a passion for the art form rather than a desire to make it a profession.
Over the years, Paul has explored diverse subjects, including people, vacation, and nature photography, with a particular affinity for capturing bugs and flowers. Since the turn of the millennium, Paul has developed an interest in fashion and beauty photography, primarily shooting models in studio and location settings to showcase their unique beauty and make them look their best.
His online presence serves as a platform to share his artistic expression.
Well done to everyone that have taken part and congratulations to those who were selected and can be seen in October 24’s edition of the Algarve Plus Magazine.
The next theme for Algarve Plus we will have to get the feel for is: “Copper” and will be judged by Tom Porter.

Words of Wisdom
Image 15: Just Listen to the Music by Daryl Gabin
This image is well done, exposure in a venue like this is really tough and it was handled well in this image. The framing is nice, all the performers are pleasantly in the frame, the color balance is good considering the challenge of the venue. I see two possible ways to improve the composition had it been possible, If the photographer could have move to more a position for a more straight one positions or at lease closer to straight on I think it would be an improvement. The other would be to have not cut off the performers feet. On the whole and considering the changes of shooting in this type of venue, this is a well done image.
Image 01: Into the Music by Robert Bousfield
The monochrome treatment for this image is a good choice and the moody lighting is well done. I like the highlight lighting on the drummer and singer. In this image the position of the photographer, shooting from the side, works well, it has the two highlighted performers in profile and I like that. In addition the low key lighting also helps to down play any distractions for the background.
Image 07: Lisbon Street Musician by Robert Pool
I find this to be a wonderful image and great Art of an Artist. This image really tells a story of this musician. I get the feeling of a seasoned musical artist, one who loves to perform just for his own pleaser and to tell his story to anyone listening. I like the composition and the exposure, all done very well.
Image 12: Jazz Jam Clube Tavira by Billy Munnelly
A very creative composition and well seen by the maker of this image. Abstract but yet not abstract, I’m not sure how to classify this image, but I do like it. Colors, lighting, little bits of motion blur all seem to work in this image.
Image 04: Accordion Player by Ina Tanzer
What a wonderful storytelling image this is. It is almost monochrome, but not. It makes one feel like they are there in person. The tilting of the camera really works for this image. Well composed and exposed.
