This month’s theme brings back a popular theme that we can all relate to, some more than others, but it’s all around us, everywhere we go… “Street Art”
We invited Mark Braun to be our guest judge this month. Mark is an advanced Amateur photographer and served on the task force that led to the International Photography Hall of Fame moving to St. Louis. He is currently Co-Chair of the board of directors, and the Collections Committee, and is also a member of the Hall of Fame Induction Committee.
More information about Mark and his work can be seen on his website.
Thanks Mark!
Well done to everyone that have taken part and congratulations to those who were selected and can be seen in September’s edition of the Algarve Plus Magazine.
The next theme for Algarve Plus we will have to get to tune with is: “Music” and will be judged by Paul Kulessa.

Words of Wisdom:
Image 15: Paintball Loule by Fred Bos
While the majority of images in this category included static wall art, I like the way this image capture merges the theme with the human element. So instead of making a copy of a piece of art the maker included the artist. Cropping is good, driving the viewer to focus on the face in the center but is offset by the lack of balance around her.
Image 08: 08 Heading Home by Heidi Beck
While a large percentage of this image is the environment surrounding the specific art. It really enhances the work by placing the image of a cat in its place and allows the viewer to creat their own story about where the cat is heading and adds realizim to the space. Exposure is good providing enough detail in the shadows to add context.
Image 03: 03 Olhao Side Street by Robert Pool
In this image the photographer incorporated enough of the surroudings giving the subject of the art piece to exist to some extent in reality. It allows the subject to hover in time while also existing in the present. The exposure is good, capturing detail in the shadows and maintaining all of the highlights.
Image 04: 04 Ronaldo by Ina Tanzer
Incorporating another artists work in a photograph is difficult without making it just a copy of the work. Her the photographer, included enough of the sky and the pavement to balance the composition and went further to crop through the door/window on the right creating a tension in the compostion.
In addition by including the sign post on the left provided a counterpoint to the primary subject creating more tension and enhancing the overall image. The exposure is a bit bright and looses some detail in the pavement where it meets the building. But that is a minor point that doesn’t detract much from the overall image.
Image 11: 11 Street Art 1&2 by Rolf Kock
While the scene is pretty caotic, the photographer did a good job of cropping to force the viewers eyes to focus on the billboard. Once there you realize that they have captured the moment the cyclist paused to look at the advert.
