Words of Wisdom

1st Place: 1 Alfa Pendular by Glyn Parry
I love that this is in monochrome to let the very dynamic motion speak for itself. The placement of the lighter background building is essential for differentiating the train from the similarly toned sky. Lots of great leading lines, including the tracks, which also help frame the train.

2nd Place: 3 All aboard for Vila Real! by Roger Fuller
There’s so much to appreciate about this image… the inviting open doors into the darkness, the colourful graffiti, the overall mystery, the feeling of place and space as it’s not too tightly cropped, and the well-handled exposure. The decision to leave the overhead lines was a good. All technical aspects of the image appear to have been considered by the maker and executed well.

3rd Place: 5 Fast Tourism by Sergio Pereira
What a great visualisation of ‘life in a blur’. To me, this image represents the essentials of public transportation: faceless individuals encountered for brief moments, some by their avoidance of you, some by their engagement. I might have cropped a little further in on the left to just behind the ear, but otherwise, I think this artistic rendering tells a great story, one worthy of recognition.

4th Place: 9 Scoot On by Kevin Saunders
Ah, a great capture of today’s public transport. I really like the juxtaposition of these modern modes of movement with the building and sidewalk more of yesteryear. Good colours help tell the simple story. I do note a vertical perspective issue with the left and right borders, and P sign’s pole itself. These straightening’s could be resolved in post processing. Still, it’s a standout image in this group. Well seen.

5th Place: 12 Tunes Station by Ina Tänzer
A great capture of life at the station. We’ve all been there, but who else took the shot? Good vision. It’s a little overexposed in distance and sky, but the leading lines give it a great perspective, and the motion of the traveller on the right helps tell a story.
