Exhibition Night – “Landscapes & Seascapes” Sep 24

27 September 2024 @ 19:00 - 21:30

Brief – Landscapes & Seascapes

Entries for this theme will depict images that fall under the following description.

Definition:
  1. Seascape photography is basically a subtype of landscape photography, with an emphasis on the sea and coastline. So to be called a seascape, the shot generally showcases the sea, often accompanied by elements like cliffs, beaches, or rock pools. While landscape photography covers a broad range of natural scenes, seascape photography specifically focuses on scenes where the sea or ocean is a prominent element.
    • Long exposure in seascape photography can turn crashing waves into misty, ethereal forms, or capture the smooth patterns of water moving around rocks or shorelines.
    • Lens filters are used to create artistic effects. Polarizing filters can reduce reflections on the water, making underwater elements more visible, while ND filters allow for the long exposures needed to create those captivating effects in the water.
  2. Landscape photography is capturing an image that embodies the spirit of the outdoors. It carries a sense of being there to see something incredible. When viewers look at your work, their hearts should jump. You want them to feel the same emotions that you felt, standing in the middle of nature and bringing back something amazing.
    • When we look at a landscape, our eyes travel over it and selectively focus on the elements that we find appealing. Our field of vision encompasses a great deal of the scene, but our eyes and brains have the ability to ignore all except the most alluring details. Lenses and sensors or film cannot do this by themselves. They need help.
    • Time is the most important investment you can make in getting good landscape pictures. When you arrive in a place you’ve never visited before, spend time scouting—driving or hiking to different locations, finding different vantage points and what they might look like at different times of the day (Golden/ Blue hours).
