Ligia G.

A Portuguese/British citizen born in Africa, she currently divides her time between the UK and Portugal, while travelling as much as possible.

Her interest in photography began around 15 years ago, sparked by a desire to capture digital memories of the places she visited during her travels around the world.
What started as a holiday “point and click” approach eventually evolved into a more serious pursuit when she acquired her first “proper” camera—a Canon Powershot SX60 HS—marking the beginning of her photographic journey.

In 2019, she founded a photography Facebook group, originally called Algarve Amateur Photography Group, to provide a platform for amateur photographers to share their images of the Algarve. As the group evolved, so too did her photographic skills and understanding.
She now works with a Canon EOS M50 and a Canon PowerShot SX70 HS. Having stepped back from running her group, she is focusing on developing her skills and technique, continually seeking to challenge herself and grow as a photographer. This commitment to improvement led her to join the APG (Algarve Photography Group).

She identifies as an intuitive photographer rather than a technical one, relying on a basic understanding of photographic principles but guided largely by instinct and creativity.

Her work spans a wide range of subjects, from everyday urban life and architecture to nature, fauna, and flora, particularly macro photography. She also enjoys underwater and street photography. A love for vibrant colour is a defining feature of her photographic style.

Her work has been published in East Algarve Magazine and Algarve Plus Magazine, and exhibited at The Artesis Gallery in Tavira.
