Shadows – April 2026

This month’s Challenge was themed “Shadows”. Shadow photography sits at the intersection of light control, composition, and perception. At its core, it’s less about what is illuminated and more about what is withheld. By allowing shadow to dominate the frame, you shift emphasis toward form, geometry, and visual rhythm—often stripping a scene down to something more graphic and interpretive than documentary.

We asked Mark Braun to step in and address Judging duties for this challenge.

Mark discovered photography as a teenager with his first SLR camera, developing his skills through school projects, freelance newspaper work, and product photography. After a 20-year break for a business career, a 2000 trip to Yellowstone reignited his passion.

He now specializes in nature and landscape photography—especially flowers and Rocky Mountain scenes—while also exploring water, architecture, birds, people, and creative perspectives.

His work has been exhibited in numerous St. Louis venues and published widely, earning recognition in international competitions. His photographs and other creations can be viewed at www.braunsOriginals.com

Our Third Exhibition of 2026 will be Smart Phone Only on the 29th of May 2026 and we very much hope you’ll come along.
